Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Can I apply if I completed my graduation through Distance Learning or Open University?
No. The advertisement strictly states that any applicant who has completed their bachelor’s degree through distance mode of learning will not be considered eligible. You must have completed graduation in regular mode from a UGC-recognized institution.
Can I apply for both the State Commission and District Commission posts simultaneously?
Yes, eligible candidates are allowed to apply for both categories. However, you must submit separate applications for each category (one for the State Commission Member and one for the District Commission Member).
How many districts can I select as my preference for the District Commission post?
While applying for the post of Member, District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, you may select any 3 (three) District Commissions of your preference for posting.
What is the specific experience required for Law professionals?
Candidates from the field of Law must have 10 years of experience/practice. You must upload your Bar Council Registration and a Certificate from the District Court or High Court reflecting this experience.
Is there an upper age limit for these posts?
The advertisement specifies a minimum age (40 years for State, 35 years for District as on 01/01/2025). Regarding the upper limit, the tenure is for a term of 4 years or up to the age of sixty-five (65) years, whichever is earlier.
Can I edit my application after final submission?
No. The notification clearly states that no editing of the application will be allowed after final submission. Applicants are advised to use the “Preview” option to verify all details and uploaded documents before clicking “Proceed to Pay.”
What documents are accepted as proof of age?
The Commission accepts only the Class-X or Class-XII Examination Admit Card, Pass Certificate, or Marksheet where the Date of Birth is clearly reflected. No other document (like horoscope or affidavit) will be accepted.
I am already a Government Employee. Do I need an NOC?
Yes. If you are seeking pay protection or continuation in service, you must upload a ‘NO OBJECTION CERTIFICATE (NOC)’ issued by your competent authority. If not seeking these benefits, a certificate proving employment is still required.
What constitutes the syllabus for the written examination?
The exam has two papers:
Paper-I (Objective): General Knowledge, Current Affairs, Constitution of India, and Consumer-related Laws.
Paper-II (Descriptive): Essay on Trade/Commerce/Public Affairs and a Case Study on a consumer case.
What is the “Small Family Norms” declaration?
As per Assam Govt. rules, all candidates must submit a declaration regarding the “Small Family Norms” in Form-A. This form is usually available in the “Forms & Downloads” section of the APSC website and must be uploaded during the application process.
