Gauhati University has invited eligible and interested candidates to appear for a Walk-in Interview for the temporary post of Project Assistant under the research project titled “Technology intervention on traditional rice heir of north east India for commercialization and boost socio-economic development to the region.”

The project is funded by the North Eastern Council (NEC), Shillong, Government of India.

There is 1 temporary Project Assistant position under the project. Eligible candidates with an M.Sc. in Botany, Biotechnology or Microbiology, along with the prescribed marks and research experience, may appear for the Walk-in Interview.

The interview is scheduled for 7 October 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Seminar Hall, Department of Botany, Gauhati University.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification	M.Sc. in Botany, Biotechnology or Microbiology
Minimum Marks	Not less than 60% marks in the final examination
Research Experience	At least 2 years of research experience in microbiology work
Age Limit	Maximum 35 years

Currently Engaged Candidates	Candidates presently engaged in any project or other engagement must produce an NOC from the Competent Authority to appear for the interview

Salary & Benefits

The monthly emoluments depend on whether the selected candidate possesses a valid NET/GATE qualification.

Project Duration

The total duration of engagement for the project is 6 months, covering the period from October 2026 to March 2027.

Selection Process

The selection will be based on the performance and overall assessment of the candidate by the Selection Committee.

The result of the interview will be:

• Published on the Departmental Notice Board, or
• Communicated through email, as applicable.

The selection process may continue until late evening. Candidates are therefore advised to come prepared accordingly.

Important Instructions

• The post of Project Assistant is temporary and project based.
• Candidates must fulfill all prescribed eligibility conditions.
• If it is found at any stage of the selection process or thereafter that a candidate does not fulfill the eligibility criteria, the candidature may be cancelled.
• Candidates presently engaged in any project or other engagement must produce an NOC from the Competent Authority.
• Candidates without the required NOC will not be allowed to appear for the interview.
• Candidates must bring original certificates and mark sheets for verification.
• Self-attested photocopies of the documents must also be carried.
• A recent passport-size photograph and updated bio-data should be brought to the interview.
• No TA/DA will be paid for attending the Walk-in Interview.
• The selection process may continue until late evening, so candidates should come prepared accordingly.
• The selected candidate will be engaged up to completion of the project, i.e. March 2027, unless further extension is granted by the funding agency.
• The offer of engagement will be issued subject to availability of funds and approval of the Competent Authority.
• The decision of Gauhati University regarding the selection process will be final and binding.
• No correspondence regarding the selection process will be entertained by the University.
