Recently, the Indian Embassy at Tokyo in Japan is organizing a colorful and culture-expanding event called as Assam week. The week-long extravaganza has been designed to showcase the gems of rich culture, multidimensional heritage and emerging economic prospects of northeastern Indian State Assam. It is a stage to create mutual understanding and partnership between Assam with Japan in the form of which the event is attracting huge number of Japanese people, diplomats and business leaders.

Introduction to Assam through these Embassies
Indian Embassy in Japan is celebrating ‘Assam Week’ to highlight the heritage of the state and its growth potential in different sectors including the contributions of Assam to education, industry shipping and agriculture in India. On Thursday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma extended thanks to Indian Embassy In Japan for their active participation on event.
Cultural Performances and Exhibits
With cultural performances that enthralled the audience, Assam Week celebrations culminated from a series of initiations. The wonderful local dancers from Assam will be performing Bihu dance, the Assamese folk dance . The soothing sound of Borgeet, a traditional classical Assamese song and drum beats using Dhol and Pepa that symbolizes the traditional musical culture had a unique vibe in mixing all together filling the embassy auditorium.
Along with the performances an exhibition of varied Assam’s cultural artifacts, handlooms and traditional crafts will also be there. Gorgeous Mekhela Sador, the traditional garment of Assam for women and delicate silver jewelry showcasing from the state to bring to light textile work & craft heritage in a whole new pageant. Exhibition will be serve with a range of Assamese teas that have got world recognition due to its unique taste and texture.
Economic Potential and Investment Opportunities
Many of ‘Assam Week’s objectives were focused on showcasing the economic virtues and business prospects within the state. The senior official representing Assam gave a key note speech highlighting the strategic location in terms of geography lend over fertile croplands and natural resources. Among the sectors where Assam is looking to harness Japanese investments, the Chief minister said agriculture, tea and tourism are few sectors that were earmarked.
The evening event included side-stage discussions and seminars with Indian and Japanese industry leaders, as well as government dignitaries.
Tourism and Cultural Exchange
Another hot topic of the event in the Assam Week is tourism sector. Because of its natural beauty and the famed river Brahmaputra, Kaziranga National Park and Majuli Island — Assam has become a destination for eco & cultural tourism. The embassy also going to present the Assamese cuisine as an initiative for the cultural exchange. Introducing Assam cuisine to Japanese foodies by the embassy guests and they tasting some of the traditional Assamese delicacies like Masor Tenga (fish curried sour) and Laru (sweets). Through the culinary session it will not only help in boosting Assamese food culture but will also create curiosity for agricultural produce of the state primarily its organic and aromatic spices.
Educational and Academic Collaboration
Given the significance of education in cultivation sustainable relationships, the embassy is also arranging some important meetings regarding possible academic partnership between Assam and educational institutes in Japan.
