India Becomes 4th Largest Biofuel Consumer in 2024

According to recent global energy data, India emerged as the 4th largest biofuel consumer in 2024, surpassing China. This growth reflects India’s aggressive push for cleaner energy through policies like ethanol blending in petrol, biodiesel expansion, and bio-CNG usage. The shift aligns with the government’s goal to reduce carbon emissions, cut oil imports, and support farmers by creating a market for agricultural waste. India’s biofuel use is expected to grow further as infrastructure and incentives expand. The country now trails only the U.S., Brazil, and the EU in total biofuel consumption.

Experts praise this trend as crucial for sustainable development and inclusive economic growth.
